Khenpo Namdröl Rinpoche Khenpo Namdröl was born in 1953 in a small village in Eastern Tibet, a three-days ride from H. H. Penor Rinpoche's Palyul Monastery in Kham. In 1959 at the age of four he went into exile in India. When he was 13, he joined His Holiness' Namdröling Monastery in Bylakuppe, Mysore. He served there as attendant to Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche. Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche was the first to encourage him to become a scholar. Khenpo Namdröl has studied with and received transmissions from many renowned masters and teachers, such as H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, Kyabje Dodrupchen Rinpoche, Dzogchen Khenpo Tsöndru, Khenpo RInchen, and Khenpo Dazer. In 1978 he and Khenpo Tsöndru founded the Ngagyur Nyingma Institute at the Namdroling Monastery. For many years, Khenpo Namdrol has selflessly served H. H. Penor Rinpoche and received teachings many from him. In search of deeper teachings on the Tantra, he traveled to Tibet. There he met and discovered an extremely close connection with Khenpo Jigme Phuntsog. In 1990 he was instrumental in aranging the meeting of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Khenpo Jigme Phuntsog, whom he accompanied on his only tour of the West in 1993. Khenpo Namdröl is currently a senior khenpo at the Ngagyur Nyingma Institute at Namdröling Monastery, where he has taught for 22 years. This instutution is the largest study college outside of Tibet and has an outstanding reputation. As of 1995, over 30 students at the Institute had qualified to teach the sutras and tantras; this speaks highly of the dedicated spiritual activity that Khenpo has offered in the East. Now Khenpo teaches regularly in the West.
