His Holiness Jigmed Phuntsog Rinpoche

His Holiness is known for his qualities as a realization holder and his miraculous activities as a siddha. In 1933, just after his birth, he recited a mantra seven times. When he was young, his memories of his previous life as the famoius master Lerab Lingpa, Tertön Sogyal, were fresh and clear in his mind. As a child he demonstrated himself to be a tertön (treasure revealer) in this life, extracting various statues and shells as he played, .

Various highly accomplished teachers taught him monastic discipline, debate, philosophy, and the common and uncommon aspects of vajrayana. They also insructed him in the three divisions of Great Perfection (dzogchen) teachings. During the course of these studies he became an undefeated debater and attained the highest scholastic degree of khenpo. At another, more extraordinary level of training, he manifested different bodies and visited pure lands, where he received teachings from many buddhas. After the passing of his root lama, Thug Yishin Norbu, he taught at Nubzur Gonpa.

Again and again, to increase the faith of beings, he demonstrated his qulities as a siddha. In one place, as he performed Vajrakilaya, his phurba flew through the air. He pulled a treasure casket from the sky. Other objects he pulled from rocks. Those who approached him often had visions of deities and radiant light.

No less miraculous than this was the increase he brought to the Vjarayana teachings since the Chinese relaxed their grip on the spiritual life in Tibet. Many thousands of monks took ordination from him. He was responsible for the construction of ten thousand stupas. Several of his disciples attained rainbow body.

His Holiness Jigmed P'huntsog Jungnay was boundless in wisdom and tireless in compassionate activity.

During his only U.S tour, in 1993, His Holiness conferred empowerments from the Nyagla Sogyal termas. These termas, which are from the highest catagories of dzogchen, are the cycle of treasures that he revealed in his previous incarnation as Tertön Sogyal. His Holiness offered a series of teachings on vajrayana practice and the nature of mind. The following videos are from this U.S tour.
